Studyopportunities
The Sciences Po Lyon curriculum lasts five years and can be followed once students have graduated from high school and obtained their Baccalaureate Diploma or equivalent. Admission is only possible after passing a competitive entrance examination. Once completed, the Sciences Po Lyon curriculum is equivalent to a Master’s degree and is recognised in France and internationally.
The study program offered by Sciences Po Lyon allows each student to build a career path aligned with his or her ambitions and to develop a personalized professional project.
The five years of study are structured around a first multidisciplinary cycle of three years to build the foundation of common knowledge and a second cycle, of two years, in specialization and professionalization including internships.
The initial undergraduate program focuses on several disciplines:
- Law (constitutional law, administrative law, European law, etc.)
- Political sciences (political sociology, geopolitics, political thought, etc.)
- Economics (doctrines, commercial economy, political economy, international economy, etc.)
- History (political history of France since the Revolution, totalitarianisms, etc.)
- Modern foreign languages and civilisations (compulsory study of two modern foreign languages throughout the programme).
International relations, management sciences, management and communication all form additional disciplines during this period of study.
The third year is a mandatory exchange year: students go to one of our 170 partner universities around the world.
In the fourth year, students take one of the four majors offered at Sciences Po Lyon (public affairs/international affairs/urban and territorial affairs/communication). This specialisation helps students to choose their first professional pathway, which is further consolidated in the fifth year when choosing the Master’s program.
The fifth and final year of study at Sciences Po Lyon offers students a chance to choose from around 20 different Master’s degree program, of which 9 are led in partnership with other institutions on the Lyon-Saint-Étienne site.
After five years of study, students are ready to join the professional sector or continue research, depending on their career objectives.
